Fintech insights with Intrinio’s Chief Executive Officer, Rachel Carpenter (26:42)

Rachel Carpenter shares an update on Intrinio, where we’re at, things we are working on – new datasets, simplifying our data offerings, and exciting new data coming soon! Andrew and Rachel talk about the behind-the-scenes effort that is essential to keep things running smoothly and the importance of focusing on what we are good at and outsourcing what we aren’t so good at. Rachel discusses a personal experience as a startup and lessons she learned and helpful tips for other early-stage entrepreneurs. They discussed an exciting new video series Intrinio recently launched on our YouTube channel, which shares tutorials and education for the fintech industry. Andrew and Rachel talk about new tools that are emerging in the fintech space and how that affects the future of data.

An interesting topic they dive into are their thoughts on trading on the blockchain and the industries affected by this. With trading happening on the chain, essentially, it would be operating as the exchange, brokerage, clearing house and custodian all in one. Which leaves the question, where does the source of data come from? Is the blockchain an efficient database? And what will that look like 10 years from now?

They also touch on a hot topic around the SEC filing based on exchanges being able to charge any amount of fees for access to their data. They explain how the SEC plays a role in these fees and how this impacts everyone that buys stock market data. Rachel encourages listeners who want more affordable access to data to write a letter to the SEC, sec.gov/rules/proposed.shtml. Lastly, Rachel shares with listeners two helpful tips she picked up as a leader.
