A company is only as good as the team behind it – and we’re proud to have some of the brightest minds in finance and technology at Intrinio.
In this blog series, we’re giving you a peek behind the curtain at our team: who they are, what they do, and why it makes Intrinio great. This week we’re talking to Phil Vigo, Intrinio’s senior data engineer.
I'm solely focused on data quality as it applies to our most popular products. I work on financial filings, stock prices, and maintain several sets of data our customers use. I also support the sales team when a key client is looking for a fast turnaround and I train new hires on how our internal systems work.
I like to think of our methods as a two headed hydra: one head uses cutting-edge machine learning, while the other head supports the first head by fixing what it misses in a more process-focused, functional way. Generally speaking, I have the easier of the two jobs.
The data sets we offer are vast and complex, and financial management has many variables that we have to anticipate and adjust to regularly. It's very difficult to design software that is futureproof when so many things change so often.
A) It's a fun job. I love telling people I actually talked a company into paying me to solve Sudoku puzzles for a living. I know that's not the only reason I'm here, but this work really doesn't get boring ever.
B) Getting to work with this team of professionals and our leadership. It's refreshing to work somewhere everyone is bought in and dedicated to our success.
I'm currently working on covering a large number of ADR filing non-US companies and helping train the machine learning models how to get them right moving forward.
